Sunday, 9/8/2024 to Saturday, 9/14/2024 - Run Our River 5K - September

I walked twice this week, 4.70 miles.
I ran 6 times this week, 22.45 miles.
I didn't bike this week.
I took 66,442 steps this week according to my Garmin Venu smartwatch.
My Venu gives me steps, heart rate and floors climbed (take that last data point with a grain of salt). My Withings WS-50 Smart Body Analyzer scale gives my weight (when it feels like connecting to our Wi-Fi).

WALKING/RUNNING/BIKING: I have gotten over a nagging ache in my left hip/hamstring through lots and LOTS of stretching. So ... I do walks, runs or bike rides and then stretch afterwards. A run is better than a walk or bike in my 66-year-old mind but any exercise is good in the end.

Walk/Run/Bike electronics: I use my Garmin Venu for runs and walks (backup for the bike). I listen to my CelsusSound S800C Bone Conduction Headphones.

BTW, I am on a 1537 day steak (4 years, 2 months) of either a walk, run or bike of greater than 1 mile (as of Saturday night, 9/7). There were more than a few days when a mile was all I could walk or limp.

Run: 4.45 miles, 38:36, 8:40 pace, 66 feet total ascent, 124/137 avg/max HR, 158/168 avg/max cadence, 54F, 77% RH, 16 mph W wind, partly sunny

I got out at my usual pace on my usual "Out by the pier and around" route. I saw a group of people on the pier just by the boardwalk with cameras and binoculars. I stopped, asked and found that they were a group of bird watchers from the Rochester Birding Association. They were watching a bald eagle and an osprey dueling over the Genesee River. They were too far away for a cell camera picture, :-(. I continued onward. My thighs were a bit tight from yesterday's Heritage Hero 10K. I took a walk break when I turned up onto Greenleaf Rd. My splits were 8:57, 8:34, 8:37, 8:47 and 8:07 over the last 0.45 mile.
You can see the charring on the charger and cord
Christine and I had a bit of excitement on Sunday morning. She moved to get up off the bed and pulled her charger out of the surge suppressor a bit ... well a metallic charging cord hit the hot lead and started a small flame about an inch high that melted the cord to the hot lead! We were both shocked and started at it for a few seconds. Christine was closer and pulled the charger out which put out the flame.

Run: 3.15 miles, 28:18, 8:59 pace, 38 feet total ascent, 121/137 avg/max HR, 157/165 avg/max cadence, 54F, 82% RH, 8 mph SW wind, clear

I probably should have walked but I ran anyway. My right heel was a bit achy so I run easy and cut it short on my "Out to Stutson Street Overlook" route. My splits were 9:39, 8:56, 8:28 and 8:15 over the last 0.15 mile.
There was a definite line of thunderstorms that hit our townhouse around 5 PM to 7 PM. The wind was from the NW and it seemed that every one of them was aimed right at us. It poured!!!

I got out my usual walk on the morning before a race in the evening. There were still some wet spots from the deluge last night. The Lakeshore Country Club had water traps instead of sand traps! My splits were 13:58, 13:52 and 14:15 over the last 0.35 mile.
Run: 0.8 mile, 7:27, 9:15 pace, 0 feet total ascent, 117/127 avg/max HR, 151/159 avg/max cadence, 71F, 41% RH, 6 mph W wind, sunny

Tonight's race was the last of the 6 races in the 2024 Run Our River 5K series. I got out for a little 0.8 mile warm up just to loosen up a bit. Tonight's race had about 30 feet of a grassy mound since a gate on the Genesee Riverway Trail was closed. We just ran around it.
And we were off! I decided to just keep a steady pace for this race. I just kept going ... didn't push ... just kept going ... and done!
I did OK. My chip time was 25:01, 59th out of 118, 5th out of 9 in my M 60-69 age group. My splits were 8:01, 8:07, 7:56 and 7:34 over the last 0.14 mile. I finished first in my series M 65-69 age group and won ... a pair of socks ... whop-de-doo!
I watched the debate between Trump and Harris. I was yelling, cursing and giving him the finger every time he spoke ... almost! He lied his ass off! His "America is in decline" spiel has gotten old ... just like him! Harris won that debate handily! I'm team Harris and BLUE down the ballot in November!

I thought about a walk or a 5K run ... but I ran my usual "Out to Dewey Ave and around" route. Why? Because I'm stubborn, that's why. Yes ... my right heel was a bit tight but it loosened up. My splits were 9:17, 8:53, 8:33, 8:41 and 8:09 over the last 0.45 mile.

I saw this garden flag on the Secret Sidewalk
I got up, got dressed and got out for a run at a slightly slower pace on my usual "Out by the pier and around" route. I swear I could run this route with my eyes shut, lol. My splits were 9:26, 9:04, 8:54, 8:42 and 8:07 over the last 0.45 mile. A negative split to start the day!

I got out for a brisk walk after 5 running days on my usual "Out to Beach Ave" route. My splits were 13:59, 13:41 and 13:53 over the last 0.35 miles.

Shoes: blue/green Brooks Glycerin GTS20 - 165.56 miles
It was a bit cool, clear and sunny when I stepped outside and totally unlike the fog that descended last night even before sunset. I got for a bit longer run on my "Out to Island Cottage" route. It felt like I was pulling teeth a bit to keep my legs running but it got easier once I made the turn at Island Cottage Rd. My splits were 9:02, 8:54, 8:42, 8:29, 8:29 and 7:53 over the last 0.25 mile.
