This blog post is saved as I write it to avoid the Blogger "Auto Save" feature. I have found (as have others) that if you accidentally delete your entire blog post before you publish it that "Auto Save" will kick in within seconds to take you to a blank page. I have done this more than once! This feature is turned off once you publish the blog post. Then if you accidentally delete your entire post it is not final until you click Update (so you have a chance to realize that you are about to do something stupid).

I walked 1 times this week for 2.01 miles.
I ran 6 times week for 15.36 miles.
I didn't bike this week.
I took 38,887 steps this week according to my Garmin Venu smartwatch.
My Venu gives me steps, heart rate, hours slept and floors climbed (take those last 2 data points with a grain of salt). My Withings WS-50 Smart Body Analyzer scale gives my weight.

RUNNING/BIKING: My right glute was injured when I took a trail run in the Lakeshore Country Club on  12/19/20. I wear a Buff when I am out so I can slip it up when I approach someone. BTW, I am on a 207 day streak of either a walk, run or bike (as of Saturday night, 1/16).

COVID-19: I work for Ricoh as a Site Leader. I work mostly from home now. I support the 169 Ricoh printers in the four L3Harris SAS buildings. I can remotely monitor them. I am required to wear a cloth mask when I enter any L3Harris building (actually when I exit my car in the parking lot) and also pass an automated temperature test before I can enter a turnstile. I also wear a cloth mask whenever I enter any public building ... like Wegmans or BJs. I realize that a cloth mask isn't a N95 mask but it's better than nothing. I don't have disposable gloves so I wear light running gloves. News links about gloves and clothing herehere and here. I don't want to spread COVID-19 if I am asymptotic (heaven forbid) nor do I want to catch it because someone isn't wearing a mask of their own. Remember ... wear your mask! It isn't a political statement! We are NY Tough!

4494 steps, 57/145 avg/max HR, 11:05 hrs sleep, 176.8 lbs, 10 floors climbed
run: 2.26 miles, 19:44, 8:45 pace, 82 feet elevation gain, 140 avg HR, 148 max HR, 157 avg cadence, 39F, 77% RH, 4 to 19 WNW wind, wind chill 36F,  cloudy
I lazed around all morning and didn't get out for my run until just before the Browns - Chiefs game. I wanted to do a "Out to Stutson St Overlook" route but I encountered an unleashed dog whose owner couldn't leash. I knew the dog would follow me so if I continued in their direction (same as mine) so I turned around and ran the other way. The dog didn't follow me. I can't run long yet so I just ran down to Beach Ave and back. No worries. My splits were: 8:41, 8:43 and 8:48 over the last 0.26 mile.

4050 steps, 50/139 resting/peak HR, 7:56 hrs sleep, 177.4 lbs, 8 floors climbed
run: 2.01 miles, 18:50, 9:23 pace, 69 feet elevation gain, 131 avg HR, 142 max HR, 154 avg cadence,
It had snowed about 1/2 inch overnight. I got up and ran before sunrise ... like usual. It's what I do. I feel like a poser sometimes since I can't run as long as I used to. But I got out and ran anyway. Two miles is more than one mile or zero miles ... I guess. I took shorter steps so I didn't have any trouble with traction. My splits were:

Tuesday, 1/19/2021

6806 steps, 55/126 resting/peak HR, 4:50 hrs sleep, 178.1 lbs, 12 floors climbed
walk: 2.00 miles, 29:37, 14:48 pace, 85 feet elevation gain, 104 avg HR, 131 max HR, 118 avg cadence, 31F, 95% RH, 7 to 14 mph SSW wind, wind chill 24F, cloudy
I got out for a walk today instead of a run. Why? I decided to rest my legs and right glute after 3 runs in a row. It had snowed a bit more overnight but it wasn't even an inch so I had no trouble on my "Out to Stutson St Overlook" route.

POLITICS ... 45 gave out 70 pardons and 73 commutations in one of his final acts of his "presidency" ... after I went to sleep. At last ... the final day! I have never been so concerned with a "president" before ... at no time did I not think that he might just send a nuke somewhere just because. It was always "me, me, me" and all about the 0.1% and his base ... never about all of us Americans.

7728 steps, 50/137 resting/peak HR, 8:21 hrs sleep, 179.5 lbs, 10 floors climbed
run: 3.55 miles, 32:36, 9:11 pace, 79 feet elevation gain, 132 avg HR, 141 max HR, 157 avg cadence, 26F, 85% RH, 8 to 21 mph WNW wind, wind chill 18F, cloudy with light snow
It was colder and the wind chill was in the teens when I got up, got dressed and got out for a run. I knew the drill ... dress warmly. I wore my CW-X tights, Craft long sleeve pullover, Brooks 1/4 zip long sleeve pullover, balaclava, Brooks beanie and heavy running gloves. It had snowed about 1/2 inch overnight. The light snow was pretty as it fell past my headlamp. I took shorter strides and had no trouble with traction. My right glute gave me a slight ache just to let me know it was still there ... but I kept going. I wanted to run on my "Out to the pier" route. There were one foot waves on Lake Ontario. I took a few tiny walk breaks on the way back. It seemed I was running a lot slower than 9:11. My splits were: 9:00, 8:57, 9:15 and 9:40 over the last 0.55 mile.

POLITICS ... At last! President Biden and Vice President Harris were sworn in just before noon. I watched most of the 59th Inauguration. It was quite different due to the threat of more violence from right wing extremists and also from COVID-19. Biden's speech was quite moving. At last ... maybe I and 81 million others who voted for him can sleep better after 4 years of 45. What of the 74 million who voted for 45? Hopefully some of them will believe in unity and facts not propaganda and lies.

3746 steps, 50/145 resting/peak HR, 7:09 hrs sleep, 179.3 lbs, 11 floors climbed
run: 2.00 miles, 19:06, 9:02 pace, 72 feet elevation gain, 136/153 avg/max HR, 157 avg cadence, 29F, 74% RH, 6 to 20 mph SW wind, wind chill 22F, cloudy
Well ... another morning alarm at 5:40 AM ... another up and at 'em. I got up, dressed and out for another "Out to Stutson St Overlook" run. It was as cold as yesterday so I wore the same clothing ... been there, done that. There were a very few icy spots. I saw them with my headlamp so no worries. My splits were: 8:53 and 9:04 pace.

POLITICS: Hmm ... Biden was in the White House last night and I had a great night of sleep! Coincidence? Maybe ... maybe not!

5966 steps, 47/138 resting/peak HR, 7:28 hrs sleep, 178.5 lbs, 8 floors climbed
run: 2.00, 18:06, 9:02 pace, 69 feet elevation change, 131/144 avg/max HR, 156 avg cadence, 35F, 78% RH, 8 to 22 mph W wind, wind chill 28F, cloudy
I didn't sleep very well ... but I got up when my alarm went off at 5:40 AM. I was going to run ... so I got up, got dressed and got outside. It's something that I do for myself ... it's a habit ... it's what I do. I decided to just do my "Out to Stutson St Overlook" route of 2 miles ... easy peasy. My splits were: 8:48 and 9:06.

Saturday, 1/23/2021

6097 steps, 49/140 resting/peak HR, 7:56 hrs sleep, 178.8 lbs, 14 floors climbed
run: 3.55 miles, 34:37, 9:45 pace, 98 feet elevation gain, 132/143 avg/max HR, 155 avg cadence, 17F, 91% RH, 16 to 30 mph NW wind, wind chill 2F, partly cloudy
It got colder and windier overnight. Plus it snowed about 4 inches of light, fluffy snow (and continued to snow off and on during the day). I puttered around a bit but ... my streak needed to tick onward so I got up, got dressed and got outside. The wind chill was in the single digits so I dressed with all the cold weather gear that I had: CW-X tights, shorts, Darn Tough socks, Craft long sleeve pullover, Brooks 1/4 long sleeve pullover, balaclava, GRTC gaiter, ski mttens and ski googles. But ... I made one mistake. I wore my road shoes instead of my trail shoes. I noticed that I didn't have much traction before I had run 100 yards. I shown of turned back but ... I didn't. I just ran onward ... plowing through the 4 (or more) inches of snow. I slipped and slid a bit but I slowed, shortened my stride, ran onward ... and made due. I didn't fall ... another plus. I ran my slightly longer "Out by the pier" route. There were 1 to 2 foot waves coming in on Lake Ontario. A nice and peaceful run. My splits were: 9:36, 9:47, 9:39 and 10:04 over the last 0.55 mile.
