Sunday, 8/16/2026 to Saturday, 8/22/2026 --- IN PROGRESS

I walked 3 times this week, 5.95 miles
I ran 3 times this week, 5.58 miles.
I took x steps this week according to my Garmin Venu smartwatch.
My Venu gives me steps, heart rate and floors climbed (take that last data point with a grain of salt). My Withings WS-50 Smart Body Analyzer scale gives my weight. All weather conditions are from the Greater Rochester International Airport (KROC) which is 13.3 miles away.

WALKING/RUNNING: I have a swollen right knee that I ignore. My PCP said that since there is no pain to just watch it. He thinks that it may be that the leg muscle is outside of the ligaments that should surround it (which makes it puffy looking).

Walk/Run electronics: I use my Garmin Venu for runs and walks. I listen to my TechNet bone conduction headphones, link here.
.
BTW, I am on a 2244-day steak (since 6/24/2020 or 6 years, 1 month) of either a walk, run or bike of greater than 1 mile (as of Saturday night, 8/15). There were more than a few days when a mile was all I could walk or limp.

Sunday, 8/16/2026
steps, resting/max HR, pounds, floors climbed
Walk: 2.15 miles, 30:40, 14:16 pace, 90/100 avg/max HR, 120/130 avg/max cadence, 66F, 73% RH, 3 mph SE wind, partly cloudy
Shoes: white Brooks Glycerin GTS21 - 485.95 miles
I took the advice of my darling wife, Christine, and got out early for a brisk walk on my "Out to Latta Rd" route. My splits were 14:28, 14:07 and 14:03 over the last 0.15 mile.

Monday, 8/17/2026
steps, resting/max HR, pounds, floors climbed
Run: 2.08 miles, 22:02, 10:32 pace, 123/137 avg/max HR, 142/165 avg/max cadence, 72F, 94% RH, 5 mph NW wind, cloudy
Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 217.44 miles
I got out early again to beat the heat, humidity and maybe a bit of rain. I tried to run ... and had limited success. I just can't run more than 50 strides (that's 4 steps/stride) before I am out of breath and had to walk for a bit. My weight is up from the low 180s to the high 180s in the past 2 months. It's kind of concerning (healthwise) and depressing (running memory-wise). I will certainly ask my PCP about it at the yearly physical that is in October (I think). So ... I can do brisk walks but can't seem to run more than a couple hundred yards. I could run 5Ks without stopping just last year. Maybe my running is allergic to being retired, lol??? Whatever, my splits were 10:20, 10:48 and 9:51 over the last 0.08 mile.

Tuesday, 8/18/2026
steps, resting/max HR, pounds, floors climbed
Walk: 1.75 miles, 23:03, 13:10 pace, 100/107 avg/max HR, 125/235 avg/max cadence, 75F, 54% RH, 10 mph WNW wind, sunny
Shoes: white Brooks Glycerin GTS21 - 487.70 miles
I got out a bit after lunch for a quick walk on my "Out to Ling Rd" route. My splits were 13:13 and 13:07 over the last 0.75 mile.

Wednesday, 8/19/2026
steps, resting/max HR, pounds, floors climbed
Run: 2.05 miles, 22:49, 11:06 pace, 125/140 avg/max HR, 137/161 avg/max cadence, 64F, 94% RH, 8 mph SSW wind, cloudy
Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 219.49 miles
I got out for a run after I got back from turning in the NY plates for the 19 Trax. It was another "I can't run more than 200 steps before I had to stop because I'm out of breath" run. Yes ... I was in run/walk the entire run. I could 1 mile about a month ago and now it's not even a 1/4 mile. Maybe I have exercise-induced asthma, Runnersworld.com link here? I'm pretty sure that I was wheezing when I walked to catch my breath. My splits were 10:45, 11:26 and 11:34 over the last 0.05 mile.

Thursday, 8/20/2026
steps, resting/max HR, pounds, floors climbed
Walk: 2.05 miles, 26:17, 12:48 pace, 103/129 avg/max HR, 131/200 avg/max cadence, 61F, 88% RH, 3 mph WSW wind, cloudy
Shoes: white Brooks Glycerin GTS21 - 489.75 miles
I was awake at 6:40 AM but didn't get out until around 8:30 AM. It was still before 9 AM so it's a win. I got out for a brisk walk on my "Out to Latta Rd" route. No worries ... I worked up a bit of a sweat. My splits were 12:36, 13:00 and 13:00 over the last 0.05 mile.

Friday, 8/21/2026
steps, resting/max HR, pounds, floors climbed
Run: 1.45 miles, 16:02, 11:03 pace, 122/137 avg/max HR, 140/163 avg/max cadence, 61F, 88% RH, 6 mph WSW wind, sunny
Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 219.49 miles
I got out for another attempt at running. I had the same run 50 strides (4 steps/stride) until I ran out of breath and had to walk until I could do it again. I had no endurance whatsoever. I cut it short when the hole in the LOSP Trail fence presented itself so I could cut back to Greenleaf Meadows. There's lots that I could type about my current state of health ... but ... not today. Anyways, my splits were 10:55 and 11:21 over the last 0.45 mile.

Sunday, 8/9/2026 to Saturday, 8/15/2026 - Run Our River 5K - August

I walked 6 times this week, 9.36 miles
I ran 2 times this week, 3.57 miles.
I took 38,494 steps this week according to my Garmin Venu smartwatch.

I listen to my TechNet bone conduction headphones, link here.
.
BTW, I am on a 2237-day steak (since 6/24/2020 or 6 years, 1 month) of either a walk, run or bike of greater than 1 mile (as of Saturday night, 8/8). There were more than a few days when a mile was all I could walk or limp.

Sunday, 8/9/2026
5725 steps, 45/92 resting/max HR, 188.6/187.4 pounds, 11 floors climbed
Well ... today started out OK. My darling wife, Christine, didn't snore as noticeably last night. We both got a good night's rest! But ... it would have been better if my darling wife, Christine, had just slid into the passenger's seat this morning when we headed out from Avon OH. But no .... she slid into the driver's seat. Then .. it was white knuckles for me in the passenger's seat or just close my eyes and hope as she drove through Cleveland on I-90 and then out east. I tried not to knick-pick ... but she passed 2 tractor-trailers on the right, rode the white line and tried to drive the speed limit a lot. We argued, I tried to say nothing ... it was lasted until we switched seats at Conneaut OH. Then ... it was try, try ... not to argue the rest of the way home. WTF ... she looks so much prettier in the passenger seat ... and I control the driving!!!
Walk: 1.46 mile, 23:17, 15:59 pace, 80/92 avg/max HR, 119/221 avg/max cadence, 79F, 45% RH, calm, partly cloudy
Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 209.71 miles
I got out for a slow walk on the "Another mile" route after we got situated back in our humble adobe (with its way too much stuff that we absolutely need to start getting rid of). Whatever. My splits were 15:51 and 16:18 over the last 0.46 mile.

Monday, 8/10/2026
4007 steps, 51/123 resting/max HR, 187.7/186.5 pounds, 5 floors climbed
Walk: 2.05 miles, 26:16, 12:49 pace, 111/134 avg/max HR, 128/205 avg/max cadence, 75F, 83% RH, 10 mph SW wind, cloudy
Shoes: white Brooks Glycerin GTS21 - 477.95 miles
One thing ... don't go on a trip out to OH and expect to NOT gain weight. WTF! I got out for a very brisk walk on my "Out to Latta Rd" route. It seemed to a lot hotter than what KROC reported. My splits were 13:00, 12:39 and 12:25 over the last 0.05 mile.

Tuesday, 8/11/2026
6698 steps, 49/144 resting/max HR, 185.2 pounds, 5 floors climbed
Tonight's race was the Run Our River 5K - August. I'm retired so it was a 16 minute drive from the townhouse down to the race venue. I got there around 5:50 PM.
Run: 0.45 mile, 4:14, 9:22 pace, 126/137 avg/max HR, 149/158 avg/max cadence, 80F, 47% RH, 10 mph NW wind, partly cloudy
Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 210.16 miles
I got out for a little 0.45 mile warm up run which told me that this race would suck.
Run: 3.12 miles, 31:41, 137/149 avg/max HR, 146/165 avg/max cadence, 10:09 pace, 79F, 42% RH, 14 mph WNW wind, mostly cloudy
Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 213.28 miles
And ... we were off! I got up to a really slow "race" pace for 0.41 mile ... and then it was into a 50-stride run / walk for the whole fucking rest of the way. What-fucking-ever. But I finished.
My official time was 31:47, 10:11 pace. I was 74th out of 92, 7th out of 7 in my M 65-69 age group, overall link here, my results link here.

Wednesday, 8/12/2026
5342 steps, 47/119 resting/max HR, 186.2/187.5 pounds, 16 floors climbed
Walk 2.05 miles, 25:45, 12:34 pace, 103/126 avg/max HR, 132/207 avg/max cadence, 68F, 94% RH, calm, overcast
Shoes: white Brooks Glycerin GTS21 - 480.0 miles
I didn't get out in the morning or early afternoon ... and then it started to rain ... so I waited some more. I finally got out a bit after 6 PM for a very brisk walk on my "Out to Ling Rd" route. My splits were 12:52, 12:17 and 11:57 over the last 0.05 mile.

Thursday, 8/13/2026
5799 steps, 52/133 resting/max HR, 188.8/187.7 pounds, 7 floors climbed
Run: 2.08 miles, 21:19, 10:16 pace, 126/139 avg/max HR, 144/161 avg/max cadence, 75F, 69% RH, 6 mph NW wind, mostly cloudy
Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 215.36 miles
I got for another f***ing run/walk on my "Out to Latta Rd". I can't run more than 50-strides before I have to walk!!! It f***ing sucks! I think that my allergies are preventing me from running ... maybe??? I am taking a daily 24-hour allergy pill plus a few 4-6 hour antihistamine pills during the day now. Who knows! Anyways ... my splits were 10:13, 10:27 and 8:26 over the last 0.08 mile.

Friday, 8/14/2026
6409 steps, 49/101 resting/max HR, 188.1 pounds, 6 floors climbed
Walk: 1.75 miles, 27:49, 15:54 pace, 91/108 avg/max HR, 112/125 avg/max cadence, 75F, 57% RH, 12 mph NE wind, partly cloudy
Shoes: white Brooks Glycerin GTS21 - 481.75 miles
I got out after supper for a "meh" walk on my "Out to Ling Rd" route. My splits were 15:54 and 15:52 over the last 0.75 mile.
Why a "meh" pace so late? Well ... my darling wife, Christine, and I endured trading in our 2 cars, a 2014 Cruze with 55K and a 2019 Trax with 60K that needed $4.4K of repairs to buy a 2026 Trailblazer at Bob Johnson's Chevy. We were there for about 5 hours, though with a break to get a cashier's check from Christine for the down payment from ESL and lunch at DiBella's. I'll be making the payments for the next 5 years. We did drive home with a new car though. Now we are down to one car.

Saturday, 8/15/2026
4514 steps, 51/107 resting/max HR, 189.4/188.6 pounds, 4 floors climbed
Walk: 2.05 miles, 28:37, 13:58 pace, 97/111 avg/max HR, 121/247 avg/max cadence, 72F, 57% RH, 9 mph ENE wind, sunny
Shoes: white Brooks Glycerin GTS21 - 483.80 miles
I got out late again just before sunset for a brisk on my "Out to Latta Rd" route. My splits were 13:50 and 13:59.
Why was out again for a walk so late? Well ... my darling wife, Christine, and I got out to order new glasses at Lenscrafters, a bit of lunch and then shopping at Aldi's. We both needed to digest our big lunch and almost got a nap.

Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 196.08 miles
I got out in the afternoon after the rain in the morning and early afternoon. It was very humid. I made it one mile on my nice and easy run before I began my walk/run. I just couldn't keep a pace for more than 100 paces. It was what it was. My splits were 9:12, 10:02, 10:52 and 8:53 over the last 0.15 mile.

Monday, 8/3/2026

Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 198.23 miles
My darling wife, Christine, left me alone for a bit while she went out to get her nails and hair done for out upcoming trip to OH on Friday. I got out after lunch for a brisk walk on my "Out to Latta Rd" route. My splits were 13:10, 13:08 and 13:36 over the last 0.15 mile.

Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 200.28 miles
I didn't get outside until a bit after 1:30 PM so I opted for a walk instead of a run. It was just too hot and I knew I would have melted after a mile (maybe sooner). I kicked it up to a really brisk walk after I got up on the LOSP Trail. My splits were 12:36, 12:36 and 11:58 over the last 0.05 mile.

Wednesday, 8/5/2026
5716 steps, 46/111 resting/max HR, 185.1 pounds, 4 floors climbed

Thursday, 8/6/2026
8322 steps, 48/142 resting/max HR, 187.8(!)/184.9 pounds, 34 floors climbed
Run: 3.07 miles, 34:46, 11:19 pace, 135/148 avg/max HR, 140/245 avg/max cadence, 85F, 46% RH, 12 mph W wind, partly cloudy
Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 205.40 miles
I had a race tonight, so I was a bit out of sorts without any exercise in the morning or afternoon. So ... I just lazed around a bit.
Tonight's race was another Rochester Runner of the Year race, the 7th of 13, and my fourth in a row. It was the Innovation Edge Cross Country (IEXC) Race #1 held out at Cobbs Hill Park. I had raced the IEXC Series back in 2011 and 2013, so I vaguely remembered the route around Cobbs Hill Park. I parked about 1/2 mile from the race venue. I got my bib and just waited for the race to start.
And ... we were off! It was hot and humid as I set up to a slow race pace and held on just under a mile before I resorted to a run/walk. I walked up to the mile split at 9:44. I walked the slight hills and ran the flat and downs. I kept my eyes on my feet so I wouldn't fall when I got to the woods with its roots. I just kept on keeping on. Then I got out of the woods and back to the finish. I kept running ... and done in 34:46. I was hot, sweaty and tired when I got done. I am definitely NOT in trail racing shape ... nor road racing shape ... as compared to previous years ... when I was a bit younger.
I did OK. I finished in 34:42, 52nd out of 63. I was 3rd out of 3 in my M65-69 age group. My splits were 9:44, 12:26, 11:45 and 9:08 over the last 0.07 mile.

Friday, 8/7/2026
8479 steps, 50/97 resting/max HR, 184.4/184.7 pounds, 11 floors climbed
Walk: 1.75 miles, 24:08, 13:47 pace, 90/99 avg/max HR, 121/199 avg/max cadence, 70F, 88% RH, 5 mph SW wind, overcast
Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 207.15 miles
I got out for a brisk walk on my "Out to Ling Rd" route. I made $0.20 on my walk by picking up 4 beer cans. My splits were 13:46 and 13:50 over the last 0.75 mile.
Then ... it was a walk on the ... AARRGHH side! This weekend was an outing to my darling wife, Christine, daughter, Beth's, 5th annual Barn party. Her daugher and her husband, Nick, have been building a barndomium for 5 years now ... with somewhat limited success. No matter.
Well .. the trip out there this year was ... an issue. It started at 11:40 AM with a trip out with our 2019 Trax with just under 60K on it. All was well ...until just past the Angola rest area on I-90W. My darling wife had just fallen asleep when I heard a buzzing sound ... it wasn't the radio ... then ... boom ... boom ... BOOM ... BOOM ... luckily, I was in the slow lane ... I guided the Trax to a stop ... smoke arose from under the car ... I tried to move again ... tick, tick, tick ... the car was not moving. Christine had woke up terrified. We exited the car quickly on the side on I90W ... I looked under the car but couldn't find anything obviously wrong. Christin had a fullblown panic attack ... then she called AAA Premier while drivers avoided us on I90E. A tow truck came about 40 minutes later. A nice driver, named Bud, ended up driving us all the way back to Bob Johnson's in Rochester (where we had leased and then bought the car) and all covered by AAA. BTW, the back of a tow truck is NOT comfortable to a 6'4" male ... trust me. We checked in (the repairs are an issue best left for another week) and then got a ride back to our townhouse). We started out again before just before 5 PM for our hotel in Avon OH in our 2014 Chevy Cruze. The Cruze does NOT have cruise control. We got there around 10:20 PM. My right leg was a bit ... overwrought ... from driving from 5 hours ... but we got there (a lot later than we had planned). We crashed and went to sleep .... or maybe not.

Saturday, 8/8/2026
5674 steps, 49/107 resting/max HR, 3 floors climbed
So ... we were in Avon OH ... but ... my darling wife, Christine ... snored ... ALL night. I don't think I slept much at all. We got up and headed down to breakfast around 9 AM. She headed out to her daughter's house in Grafton OH around 9:30 AM to help set up. I went back to bed to attempt to get more sleep for 3 hours. She came back for a bit. Then she drove us back for the Barn party. It was OK ... the 'dominium' part had more AC this year but not much else seemed to have been accomplished. Christine and I would have bought an existing house and then built a barn to house cars and shit ... NO ... we're sensible.
Walk: 1.1 miles, 14:34, 13:16 pace, 112/132 avg/max HR, 1225/138 avg/max cadence, 84F, 70% RH, 14 mph WSW wind, partly couldy
Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 208.25 miles
I got out a brisk of a walk on a new "Out to Law Rd: route before we had any lunch. It was hot and humid for sure! The party was fine ... she and I saw her relatives and talked a bit to everyone. We did find out that her ex-husband had one of his kidneys removed due to cancer. She ... didn't feel broken up about it. Christine drove us back to our hotel in Avon OH and then we crashed.
