I ran 4 times this week, 26.1 miles

Sun: 9.5 miles, 76:36, 8:06 pace, Seneca-Titus-St Paul-up to the Lake and back, easy, 38F, 1 stop, no pain. I slept in until after 9AM, then headed for a nice long run to the lake and back. Then I watched SU win the 2nd round of the NCAA against Arizona State. Sweet Sixteen! Go 'Cuse!

Mon: Rest day. Couch potato after eight ... Chuck, 24, Castle.

Tue: 6 miles, 48:30, 8:05 pace, FF Cobbs Hill run, 3 loops, 36F, sunny, calm, easy, 1 stop, no pain. Just your ordinary Cobbs Hill run ... powering up the hills, letting gravity work the downs.

Wed: Rest day. I got new tires from Dunn Tire, cha-$$$-ching. Kicked back, watched Transporter 3.

Thu: 6.4 miles, 60:49, 9:30 pace, Quaker Pond trail in Mendon Ponds, 48F, muddy, light sprinkle, some stops, no pain. The trail was quite muddy in spots, almost sucked my trail shoes off a couple of times. I got lost when I exited the trail. Luckily, I ran into a guy walking his dogs and asked for directions ... cuz I was headed in the wrong direction!

Fri: 4.2 miles, 32:15, 7:41 pace, FF Happy Hour, 54F, sunny, calm, 2 traffic stops, no pain. A glorious spring run. It felt great to run in shorts and a T-shirt! I got my second IT Band wrap from Ithaca Sports today. Now I have matching IT Band wraps.

I watched SU lose to Oklahoma, link here ... it was a bad day for SU to go cold from 3 point land. Then I watched KU lose to Michigan State, link here. The Newark girls also lost in their game in Glens Falls, link here and here.

Sat: Another rest day on a perfect spring day for running. Yes, I felt like a slug ... again. I spent some of the day trying to resurrect two of my aging laptops with no success. The hard drives still work but the laptops won't boot. My oldest laptop still works ... must backup its data tomorrow.

Steps:
Sun: -, Mon: 12825, Tue: 20601, Wed: 20596, Thu: 11273, Fri: 14295, Sat: 2152

I ran 4 times this week, 33.2 miles

Sun: 16 miles, 2:19:06, 8:41 pace, 26F, Seneca-St Paul-Stutson St-Beach-Edgemere, Easy, dawn to daylight, calm, no pain. A long run that raged out of control as I just kept on running to see what was around the next corner. I started out before sunrise and was on the Stutson St bridge soon after the sun rose. Then I ran down to Ontario Beach Park, up Beach Ave and Edgemere Drive until I decided to turn around at 8 miles. I ran pretty good for 8 miles, 1:05:48, 8:14 pace. I slowed down after 12 miles, 1:41:07, 8:26 pace. I really bonked after that. I didn't take any Gu or water so I ran out of energy, pure and simple.

After some rest, I took my oldest son back to Ithaca College. A long drive on a beautiful day.

Mon: Rest day. I signed up for the Spring Forward 15K on Sunday, April 5th, and the Cat's Half Marathon on Saturday, April 11th. Both races will be from Mendon Ponds Park through the rolling hills of Mendon. Should be fun! I changed my oil in my apartment parking lot using my new hydraulic jack.

Tue: 6.1 miles, FF Cobbs Hills run, 3 loops, 55F, sunny, calm, a little hard, 2 stops, no pain. Nice! Since it was St. Patrick's Day, I went out to the Otter Lodge for a wee bit of Guinness with some friends. The bagpipes sounded nice!

Wed: 7 miles, 74:05, 10:35 pace, Mendon Ponds green trail, 48F, calm, some sprinkles, no pain. I got lost a few times. I found out that running the hills during the daylight is just as hard as during the night. But hopefully it will strengthen my legs.

Thu: Went out to Six Pockets with a friend from high school who was in town from KY. I tried to tape Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice but no joy. I will have to watch them online.

Fri: 4.1 miles, 31:51, 7:46 pace, FF Happy Hour run, 32F, clear, calm, fast, no stops, no pain. I was tired and the couch tried to suck me in ... but I went out and did my run ... pretty fast too. I think I was running fast to keep warm! The final episodes of Battlestar Galactica were on the SciFi channel. I will check them out online. Let me just say ... I frakking enjoyed this series!

Sat: A rest day ... why do I still feel like a slug? Could it be that it's a beautiful spring day and I think I should be out there running? I also thought of the Rochester contingent that went down to the Hat Run 50K in Maryland. I went out to Newark to wish my daughter a happy 21st birthday.

The Newark girls basketball team won the class A state basketball title, link here.

Steps:
Sun: -, Mon: 10849, Tue: 22436, Wed: -, Thu: -, Fri: -, Sat: -

I ran 4 times this week, 21.7 miles

Sun: rest day. Went out to the GVH club meeting for some food and beer.

Mon: laundry night ... not exciting but necessary so I could have clean underwear, socks and running clothes.

Tue: 7.1 miles, 58:54, 8:18 pace, FF Cobbs Hill run, 40F, 3.5 loops, light mist, calm, 2 stops, no pain. Gotta love the Cobbs Hill run! My knees ached a bit afterward. Maybe I need to run some trail.

Wed: 5.5 miles, 63:58, 11:38 pace, Late Night Gallop in Mendon Ponds, 34F, dark, muddy, windy, walked the hills, no pain. I don't know if I like running trails at night. I lost my pedometer somewhere in the mud of Mendon Ponds.

Thu: 5 miles, 40:10, 8:02 pace, Social run, 24F, calm, 1 stop, no pain. Started out slow, Pavel caught up with me and we picked up the pace. Nice time at the Social afterward. Now if I can just remember all the names!

Fri: 4.1 miles, 32:15, 7:52 mile, FF Happy Hour run, 30F, 2 stops, no pain. Started out slow, picked it up after I got my wind. I bought a new pair of running shorts and sunglasses at Fleet Feet.

Sat: I decided to take a rest day after 4 days of running instead of running Johnny's Runnin' of the Green 5 mile in downtown Rochester. From what I can gather, a good time was had by all. I went out to see my oldest son and father. I also enriched the local economy by shopping at WalMart, Walgreens and Wegmans ... gotta shop sometimes. I have a new pedometer now. My daughter had her own adventures taking a visit to see friends down at Houghton College ... wrong turns to and from!

Steps:
Sun: -, Mon: 10089, Tue: 16365, Wed: 18334, Thu: 11234, Fri: , Sat: 22281

I ran 4 times this week, 36.3 miles

Sun: 12.6 miles, 1:47:45, 8:33 pace, 2 stops, up to the lake on St Paul + more, 22F, sunny, a little windy, 2 stops, no pain. I forgot to turn on my Garmin right away, I had 9.7 miles in 82:57. I used mapmyrun.com to estimate my mileage.

Tue: 6.1 miles, 52:52, 8:40 pace, FF Cobbs Hill run, 20F, a little windy, 1 stop, no pain. Cold with low wind chill. Brrr! But then again, any run is sweet!

Wed: 3.3 miles, 34:15, 10:23 pace, Snow Cheap #6, 24F, hilly and icy, no pain. I finished 49th out of 114, results here. My Facebook addiction saved me from missing the race. I came home, sat down, fired up the laptop, checked out Facebook and saw that someone was going to the Snow Cheap finale. It was Wednesday, 5:08PM ... I realized that it was Wednesday and that I had better get moving to make the race. It was a blast ... no snow but icy in the grove. I slid on my butt down one hill. Luckily someone loaned me a pair of Yaktraxs which helped out a lot.

Thu: A true rest day

Fri: I intended to run but my ex had car trouble so I had to go down to Ithaca College to pick up my oldest son for spring break. A long drive. So I felt I needed to do a long run on Saturday.

Sat: 14.3 miles, 120:52, 8:27 pace, run around the bay run, 35 to 45F, calm, some stops, no pain. I found out this run from the grtconline.org website, map here, plus people have recommended that I do social runs. It sounded fun so I did it. Basically you run around Irondequoit Bay with some big ups and downs on some little known roads on the west side (where you are right by the bay) and a long downhill and uphill at the bottom on Empire Blvd. I did shorten it a bit by heading all the way up Bay Rd to Lake Rd. All in all, a nice, pretty run early in the slightly foggy morning with a bit of sun in the middle. BTW, I saw some fishermen who started to walk(!) out onto the bay to go ice fishing ... a day after it was 60F!

I recovered by lazing around, spending time on Facebook, then watching the latest online episodes of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Dollhouse. I did manage to get up and take a shower and get out of the apartment.

I went out and watched the Newark basketball teams in their respective sectional finals ... both teams were seeded 2 playing the 1 seed. I saw the Newark boys lose to Pittsford Sutherland, 40-41 at the Blue Cross Arena, links here and here. When I got there, Newark was down 0-10. Newark had its chances with several 2 point leads in the 4th quarter, plus an open 10 footer with 12 seconds to go that hit all parts of the rim twice before bouncing out. What really sealed their fate was missed foul shots in the fourth quarter. After a bite to eat at Wendy's I went out to the Gates-Chili high school to watch the Newark girls play Pittsford Mendon. They won 47-45 in OT, links here and here. It looked like Newark would win handily with a 10 point lead in the 3rd quarter. But Mendon held Newark to 1 point in the 4th quarter to knot the game at 39 at the end of regulation. It was close in OT with the winning basket by Newark almost at the buzzer.

Sunday, February 22nd to Saturday, February 28th

Sunday, February 22nd to Saturday, February 28th
I ran 16 out 28 days in February, 89 miles, 5.6 miles/run
I have run 39 out of 59 days so far, 194.4 miles, 5 miles/run

Sun: 9.6 miles, 1:19:55, 8:19 pace, 1.5 x Seneca-Titus-St Paul-Zoo-2 Pond-Ridge run, 28F, easy, sunny, calm, 2 stops, no pain. Just an easy Sunday to prove to myself that I am not a slug.

Tue: 6.8 miles, 57:22, 8:26 pace, FF Cobbs Hill run, 20F, easy, calm, 2 stops, no pain. I took the back way to Cobbs Hill with 2 stops. But once I got there, I had no trouble with 3 loops and the run back on Monroe Ave. Strange.

Wed: 6.7 miles, Frenzied Late Night Crawl in the Woods at Mendon Ponds, 45F, easy, calm, multiple stops, no pain, 1 fall. A nice but exhausting night run on the trails with some running friends. Some of the trails were icy, my Yaktraxs helped.

Thu: I went out to Newark to work on my daughter's laptop. It had locked up on her on Tuesday so she abruptly powered it down. Well, it wouldn't boot back into XP. When she booted into Safe Mode, it was stopping at mup.sys. I Googled that and found that most people (not all) booted into Recovery Console and ran Chkdsk to solve it. Since I don't know the administrator password of her HP laptop from Houghton I booted from a BartPE CD to run Chkdsk. It took 2 hours, found some bad clusters (one in the software registry) and booted into XP with some slight hesitation on the first Safe Mode boot. She was happy ... no Internet for 2 days! If her laptop could boot from an USB floppy drive I do have a floppy that would hack her administrator password. I might test it sometime. I also really should dejunk it so it runs faster.

Fri: 4 miles, 31:56, 7:59 pace, FF Happy Hour run, 28F, easy to a little hard, a little windy, no stops, no pain. I started slow, then picked it up once I crossed Highland Ave. I was surprised at the pace, it didn't seem I was going that fast. I have a small bruise on my left hip where I fell on Wednesday but it doesn't bother me when I run.

Sat: I went to the Winter Doldrums, No Holidays, Im Bored, I need something to do Party out at Mendon Ponds. I brought some Wegmans Oatmeal Raisin cookies (being cooking challenged) as my dish to pass. I ate a lot of different food including some venison. Then I went down to Ithaca College to Michael's concert. A long drive. I definitely need to run tomorrow to run off all the calories from today.
