I ran 4 times this week, 36.3 miles

Sun: 12.6 miles, 1:47:45, 8:33 pace, 2 stops, up to the lake on St Paul + more, 22F, sunny, a little windy, 2 stops, no pain. I forgot to turn on my Garmin right away, I had 9.7 miles in 82:57. I used mapmyrun.com to estimate my mileage.

Tue: 6.1 miles, 52:52, 8:40 pace, FF Cobbs Hill run, 20F, a little windy, 1 stop, no pain. Cold with low wind chill. Brrr! But then again, any run is sweet!

Wed: 3.3 miles, 34:15, 10:23 pace, Snow Cheap #6, 24F, hilly and icy, no pain. I finished 49th out of 114, results here. My Facebook addiction saved me from missing the race. I came home, sat down, fired up the laptop, checked out Facebook and saw that someone was going to the Snow Cheap finale. It was Wednesday, 5:08PM ... I realized that it was Wednesday and that I had better get moving to make the race. It was a blast ... no snow but icy in the grove. I slid on my butt down one hill. Luckily someone loaned me a pair of Yaktraxs which helped out a lot.

Thu: A true rest day

Fri: I intended to run but my ex had car trouble so I had to go down to Ithaca College to pick up my oldest son for spring break. A long drive. So I felt I needed to do a long run on Saturday.

Sat: 14.3 miles, 120:52, 8:27 pace, run around the bay run, 35 to 45F, calm, some stops, no pain. I found out this run from the grtconline.org website, map here, plus people have recommended that I do social runs. It sounded fun so I did it. Basically you run around Irondequoit Bay with some big ups and downs on some little known roads on the west side (where you are right by the bay) and a long downhill and uphill at the bottom on Empire Blvd. I did shorten it a bit by heading all the way up Bay Rd to Lake Rd. All in all, a nice, pretty run early in the slightly foggy morning with a bit of sun in the middle. BTW, I saw some fishermen who started to walk(!) out onto the bay to go ice fishing ... a day after it was 60F!

I recovered by lazing around, spending time on Facebook, then watching the latest online episodes of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Dollhouse. I did manage to get up and take a shower and get out of the apartment.

I went out and watched the Newark basketball teams in their respective sectional finals ... both teams were seeded 2 playing the 1 seed. I saw the Newark boys lose to Pittsford Sutherland, 40-41 at the Blue Cross Arena, links here and here. When I got there, Newark was down 0-10. Newark had its chances with several 2 point leads in the 4th quarter, plus an open 10 footer with 12 seconds to go that hit all parts of the rim twice before bouncing out. What really sealed their fate was missed foul shots in the fourth quarter. After a bite to eat at Wendy's I went out to the Gates-Chili high school to watch the Newark girls play Pittsford Mendon. They won 47-45 in OT, links here and here. It looked like Newark would win handily with a 10 point lead in the 3rd quarter. But Mendon held Newark to 1 point in the 4th quarter to knot the game at 39 at the end of regulation. It was close in OT with the winning basket by Newark almost at the buzzer.

Keeping active, Doug
