Sunday, 9/6/2026 to Saturday, 9/12/2026 - Oaktree 5K (DNS) & Run Our River 5K - September --- IN PROGRESS

I walked 4 times this week, 8.32 miles.
I ran 2 times this week, 3.56 miles.
I took x steps this week according to my Garmin Venu smartwatch.
My Venu gives me steps, heart rate and floors climbed (take that last data point with a grain of salt). My Withings WS-50 Smart Body Analyzer scale gives my weight. All weather conditions are from the Greater Rochester International Airport (KROC) which is 13.3 miles away.

WALKING/RUNNING: I have a swollen right knee that I ignore. My PCP said that since there is no pain to just watch it. He thinks that it may be that the leg muscle is outside of the ligaments that should surround it (which makes it puffy looking). I also can't run more than 50 strides (4 steps/stride) before I have to stop to catch my breath. I either have developed asthma or allergies (something for my PCP to think out when I have my physical on October 22nd). I also have a cough due to phlegm running down my throat. So ... I might not sign up for any more races.

Walk/Run electronics: I use my Garmin Venu for runs and walks. I listen to my TechNet bone conduction headphones, link here.
.
BTW, I am on a 2265-day steak (since 6/24/2020 or 6 years, 2 months) of either a walk, run or bike of greater than 1 mile (as of Saturday night, 9/5). There were more than a few days when a mile was all I could walk or limp.

I felt very blah all day. I finally got out a bit after 6 PM for a walk on my "Out to Latta Rd" route. It wasn't a all-out brisk pace but just a nice pace. My splits were 14:04, 13:32 and 12:49 over the last 0.05 mile.
Oh, I signed up to run the Oaktree 5K a few months ago. I don't know WTF I was thinking. Needless to say, I stayed home. But here are the results link for the Oaktree 5K here (314 finishers) and the results link for the Oaktree here (159 finishers).

I got out and did what I could. Today, it was a brisk walk on my "Out to Latta Rd" route. My splits were 13:23, 14:40 and 13:00 over the last 0.05 mile.
I picked up trash alongside Greenleaf Rd on the east side from the LOSP Trail to the Greenleaf Meadows entrance. I filled up a small takeout trash bag.

Tuesday, 9/8/2026
steps, resting/max HR, pounds, floors climbed
Walk: 2.15 miles, 29:10, 13:39 pace, 70F, calm, sunny

Well ... my Garmin Venu was dead and I didn't want to wait for it to charge a bit. I wanted to get out now! So ... I updated Strava on my cell and hit Start. I got out and walked on my "Out to Latta Rd" at a brisk pace and hit Stop when I got done. I thought that my cell would upload its Strava to the online Strava but if it's possible it's not obvious. So ... I did it and I can't prove it except that's it on my phone. I don't have steps. I don't have a mile-by-mile pace, just a total pace.
Run: 0.46 mile, 4:57, 10:44 pace, 123/133 avg/max HR, 144/155 avg/max cadence, 77F, 48% RH, 5 mph SSW wind, mostly cloudy
Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 223.61 miles
Run: 3.10 miles, 35:29, 11:28 pace, 130/142 avg/max HR, 142/248 avg/max cadence, 77F, 50% RH, 5 mph WSW wind, mostly cloudy
Shoes: blue/orange Brooks Glycerin GTS22 - 226.71 miles
I would've missed this race if I hadn't of seen an email from Rochester Running Company about it. So ... another 5K, my 151st 5K. I got out for a slow warmup (with no walks) for a whopping 0.46 mile. Well ... we were off. I started almost at the back and walked up to the start stripe. Well ... it wasn't my best 5K ... it was my worst. I managed 5 sets of 70 strides, a few 50 strides and the rest were 25 to 35 strides where a stride is 4 steps. I walked to catch my breath in-between. All told I took 17 walk breaks. My splits were 10:55, 11:47, 11:55 and 9:00 over the last 0.10 mile.
I did what I could. I finished in 35:26, 11:24 pace, 83rd out of 91, 6th out of 6 in my M65-69 age group, runsignup.com results here., my results here.
It sucks and I DO need to go to my PCP to see what the FUCK is wrong. Have I run my race? Who knows?

Wednesday, 9/9/2026
steps, resting/max HR, pounds, floors climbed
Walk: 2.05 miles, 26:36, 12:57 pace, 96/104 avg/max HR, 127/221 avg/max cadence, 72F, 94% RH, 6 mph SW wind, overcast with sprinkles
Shoes: white Brooks Glycerin GTS21 - 526.45 miles
It was raining when I wake up at 9:53 AM. Yes, 9:53 AM. Sleeping in is one benefit of being retired and I do take advantage of it from time to time. I listened to it rain for a while. I got out for a brisk walk on my "Out to Latta Rd" route. I thought I had picked a window where I wouldn't get rain on but ... it started back up again while I was out. So ... I got a bit damp ... no worries! My splits were 12:44, 13:11 and 12:48 over the last 0.05 mile.
